What is your proudest professional achievement?
As President of the International Council of Ophthalmology, and the first woman appointed to this role, it is a privilege to be in a position to advance eye health at a global level and to promote collaborations and knowledge sharing among colleagues around the world.
What can be done to make the field more diverse?
Strong leadership is critical to make our field diverse at every level. Leaders that intentionally work to embrace inclusivity recognize that this brings intellectual and experiential richness to their institutions and the field at large.
Outside of ophthalmology, what makes you happy?
My best times are simple moments with family and close friends, often filled with laughter.
Why is it important that we celebrate women in the field this way?
Celebrating women ophthalmologists is an important way to bring attention to the talent and perspectives of women who are dedicated to the best possible care for our patients, whether through their leadership abilities, new techniques, breakthrough findings – or all of the above.
