Why is it important to celebrate women in ophthalmology with this list?
I sincerely appreciate The Ophthalmologist recognizing women in our field from around the globe as it is incredibly empowering and motivating to be “seen” and to know that your work and the work of others like you is valued.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
I am incredibly proud of my work advocating for women as patients and within our field of ophthalmology. Our team has written extensively on ocular and orbital injuries in women associated with intimate partner violence. We have developed an educational campaign and screening protocols which have been shown to increase assessment of homegoing safety and referral rates to social work and law enforcement.
Additionally, I have been involved in Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) since I was a fellow, chaired the WIO Summer Symposium in 2013, have served on the Board of Directors since 2014, and am currently the Immediate Past President. I am thrilled at the growth of the organization, the immense impact it has had, and the incredible friendships I have made through WIO and its sister organizations.
Outside of work, what makes you happy?
When I am not working, I enjoy exercising, exploring outdoors, and spending time with my husband, young sons, and golden retriever.
