April 2023 Issue of The Ophthalmologist

Welcome to the March/April edition of The Ophthalmologist, which, as the avid readers among you will know, means that it’s time to present the Power List 2023 – our 10th List and a special celebration of “Ten Years of Excellence and Impact in Ophthalmology.” Who are the 100 trailblazers leading our field through the last decade and into the next? We may have the answer. In addition to the Power List, please take time to peruse our usual complement of research updates, opinion, and insightful interviews. Our upfront section tackles underrepresentation in ophthalmology research and explores novel associations between COVID-19 and AMD. In our “In My View” section, we hear from David Peprah, who shares a telling story about being the only Black ophthalmology resident in Los Angeles, challenging residency programs to do more to ensure that ophthalmology reflects the diverse communities that need eyecare. To close out the issue, we sit down with Kornhauser Research Fellow, Himal Kandel, to discuss his fascinating journey crossing countries – and the boundaries between ophthalmology and optometry.
