About Malik Y. Kahook

“Over the past 18 months, my focus has been on closing the 'delivery gap' that prevents life-changing innovations from reaching the patients who need them most. At SpyGlass Pharma, we have reached a pivotal milestone with our BIM-IOL system, demonstrating in clinical trials that we can provide three years of continuous, drop-free glaucoma therapy. By integrating drug delivery into routine cataract surgery, we are moving away from a model of patient-dependent adherence to one of physician-guaranteed outcomes, effectively removing the 'human factor' from chronic eye disease management.

However, innovation in the lab is only half the battle. Through my leadership at Orbis International, where I am Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, we have worked to ensure that technological leaps are matched by clinical competency worldwide. In the last year, we have significantly scaled the Cybersight platform to provide remote surgical mentorship and diagnostic support to doctors in over 200 countries. Complementing this, the Sidra Tree Foundation, where I serve as a director, has focused on the infrastructure of equity – funding local vision centers and surgical training in underserved regions. Together, these three pillars – breakthrough technology, global education, and strategic philanthropy – aim to ensure that the next generation of ophthalmic care is both self-sustaining and universally accessible.”
