About Dennis SC Lam

From the nominator: “Expert consensus on clinical diagnosis and treatment serves as an important reference for disease diagnosis and management. While many consensus papers exist, there is no universally accepted definition or criteria for what constitutes a ‘consensus statement.’ The absence of a unified standard significantly limits the scientific validity and comparability of the consensus statements. Dennis Lam has developed an innovative methodology to reach consensus on these statements: by integrating a five-point Likert scale and setting a 75% agreement threshold. This means that a statement receiving at least 75% of experts voting “agree” or “strongly agree” will reach the threshold to become a consensus statement. This approach has established a clear framework for definition, which was endorsed and used by seven International/APAC ophthalmic organizations. Under his leadership, more than 260 experts from 27 countries/territories have participated in establishing 15 international clinical consensus guidelines on major eye diseases and surgical procedures in the past 12 months.”
