“Over the past 18 months, my clinical leadership and research activities have been guided by two complementary priorities: the standardization of clinical systems and the customization of surgical technology. Within a large and geographically dispersed network such as the Aier Eye Hospital Group, the central challenge lies in balancing the need for consistent, high-quality clinical outcomes with the introduction of advanced, patient-specific surgical innovations.
“As a multi-institutional organization encompassing clinicians from diverse professional backgrounds, Aier Eye Hospital Group depends on standardization as the primary safeguard for patient safety and therapeutic reliability. To advance this objective, my colleagues and I established a comprehensive series of in-house training programs tailored to each refractive subspecialty. In the past year, more than 20 intensive training courses were delivered to over 300 surgeons, of whom 250 completed formal clinical certification. This educational framework enabled the implementation of unified clinical protocols across more than 400 refractive surgery centers within Aier China, involving a coordinated workforce of over 600 refractive surgeons and 1,700 optometrists. In parallel, my contributions to several authoritative expert consensus documents reflect a sustained commitment to advancing equitable, cost-effective, and locally adapted refractive care, thereby extending high standards of ophthalmic practice across the nation.
“While standardization establishes the essential foundation of clinical safety, customization defines the upper boundary of therapeutic performance. I spearheaded the global debut of the WaveLight Plus platform, a next-generation customized LASIK system that integrates high-resolution corneal topography, ocular wavefront with patient-specific ocular anatomical data. Over the past year, more than 50,000 procedures have been performed using this platform, with accumulated clinical evidence demonstrating significant improvements in postoperative visual acuity and overall visual quality.
“Beyond the introduction of international technologies, I have placed particular emphasis on the localization of innovation through the support of clinical trials evaluating domestically developed femtosecond laser systems and phakic intraocular lenses. These initiatives are intended to strengthen national technological capacity while ensuring that advanced refractive solutions remain clinically accessible, scientifically rigorous, and responsive to local healthcare needs.”
