Victor L. Perez has made transformative contributions to ophthalmology over the past 12 months through his leadership of the TFOS DEWS III global consensus reports, which redefine international standards for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of dry eye disease. His high-impact research includes advances in ocular immunology, transplant biology, and ocular surface diagnostics, such as deep-learning analysis of corneal nerves and validation of a novel non-contact esthesiometer. As Director of the Cornea Research Program at Bascom Palmer, he has strengthened translational research and mentored emerging clinician-scientists while championing innovative clinical tools and therapies across GVHD, dry eye, and autoimmune ocular disease. His international advocacy and collaborative leadership – spanning TFOS, PanAmerican groups, and major multicenter studies – continue to elevate global standards of ocular care. Collectively, his achievements have significantly advanced the field and improved outcomes for patients with complex corneal and ocular surface disorders.
