“My work has focused on how innovation in ophthalmology can be introduced responsibly, ensuring that advances in care are supported by evidence, training, and sustainable systems. This has centered on three closely connected areas: contemporary glaucoma surgery, service redesign, and surgical education.
“I have led the structured integration of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and minimally invasive bleb-based procedures into routine practice, including canaloplasty and trabeculotomy techniques, the PreserFlo MicroShunt, and laserbased MIGS. Rather than introducing new procedures in isolation, this work has involved developing treatment pathways, reviewing complications, and benchmarking outcomes against national and international standards. The aim has been to move glaucoma surgery away from rigid hierarchies and towards more personalized, evidence-led decision-making.
“Alongside clinical practice, I have prioritized research that reflects real-world care. I have published as senior author on multiple peer-reviewed studies examining outcomes of glaucoma interventions, variation in surgical practice, and the health-economic implications of service delivery. I also serve as a reviewer for six high-impact ophthalmology journals.
“Service redesign has been a further area of impact. As Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology within a national NHS insourcing provider, I have overseen the expansion of ophthalmology services across multiple sites. This work has contributed to improved access and reduced waiting times while maintaining quality. It has also demonstrated that newer delivery models, including virtual pathways, can be implemented safely when outcomes and oversight are prioritized.
“I also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Cambridge and have continued to develop a structured, multimodal approach to surgical training through fellowship supervision, delivery of national and international instructional courses in glaucoma surgery, and research into simulation-based and technology-enhanced education.
“Taken together, my recent work reflects an effort to support a more data-driven, patient-centered, and sustainable model of ophthalmic care, where innovation is carefully evaluated, training is consistent and inclusive, and systems are designed to deliver high-quality care at scale. While my contribution represents a small part of a rapidly advancing and increasingly innovative specialty, I hope that this work will benefit patients, support colleagues, and inspire trainees to engage thoughtfully and confidently with the future of ophthalmology.”
