About Iqbal (Ike) K. Ahmed

“What drives me is people. The people I serve – my patients, and the people I work with – my team. Especially those on the margins: the patient who slipped through the cracks, the surgeon practicing far from academic centers, the voice that isn’t loud enough, the idea that hasn't yet found its champion. Every day I see the need to do better for our patients, who need better ways to detect disease and prevent vision loss. And every day I work with my collaborators and partners and see the beautiful synergy that comes from pursuing this shared goal. This drives me to put more energy and passion into innovating and improving the lives of so many.

“Over the past year, this has translated into focused work across education, clinical practice, and innovation. We've developed educational resources aimed at helping surgeons navigate the increasingly complex landscape of interventional glaucoma – from decision-making algorithms to practical surgical techniques – and shared these through publications, peer review contributions, and presentations at national and international conferences. We've been intentional about reaching beyond the usual circles, bringing these tools to practitioners who may feel outside the mainstream conversation.

“A central theme in our work has been patient-centered care: helping clinicians balance the excitement of innovation with evidence-based practice. Through science, editorials, and lectures, I've advocated for thoughtful adoption of new technologies – asking not just "can we?" but "should we, and for whom?"

“The impact we hope to have is simple: better outcomes for patients – especially those on the outside – and better tools and knowledge for the physicians who serve them, wherever they practice.”
