Alcon will showcase a broad portfolio of surgical technologies at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), taking place in London from September 11–15, 2026.
Headlining the company’s presence will be Clareon® PanOptix® Pro, the European launch of the new Clareon® TruPlus enhanced monofocal IOL, and the UNITY® Cataract System (CS). Alcon will also feature technologies spanning cataract, refractive and glaucoma care, including the UNITY M microscope, WaveLight® Plus, Voyager™ Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT), and Hydrus® Microstent. Nearly 40 studies and abstracts involving Alcon technologies are expected to feature across the Congress.

A major focus will be Clareon PanOptix Pro, Alcon’s latest trifocal IOL. Building on the Clareon platform, the lens is designed to provide more continuous light distribution across the visual range and improved image contrast. Alcon reports 94% light utilization, compared with 88% for Clareon PanOptix, with new ESCRS data set to further examine visual performance, patient-reported outcomes, and optical quality.
Among the research being presented, David Gunn will report the first prospective real-world evaluation of binocular visual performance and patient-reported outcomes following bilateral Clareon PanOptix Pro implantation. Additional presentations will compare the lens with TECNIS Odyssey and examine its light utilization and optical quality across different visual ranges.
Alcon will also use ESCRS to introduce Clareon TruPlus to European markets. The enhanced monofocal IOL is designed to improve intermediate vision while preserving distance vision and incorporates the company’s Opti-Balance™ Technology, which modifies the curvature of the central optic to direct light for distance vision.
On the equipment side, UNITY Cataract System will take a prominent role. The platform incorporates UNITY 4D Phaco, Intelligent Sentry, and UNITY Thermal Sentry technologies designed to improve phaco efficiency, anterior chamber stability, and surgical control.
New ESCRS studies will examine 4D Phaco performance, anterior chamber stability at lower IOP settings and real-world operating-room workflow. Alcon will also highlight UNITY M, its next-generation surgical microscope, alongside UNITY GPS, a new image-guidance technology intended to connect clinic and operating-room workflows and support execution of the surgical plan.
Scientific exchange and education will form another major part of the company’s program. Alcon will launch its Science Expert Network in Europe and host expert-led sessions covering IOL innovation, the UNITY surgical platform, cataract surgery efficiency and case-based management using 4D Phaco and Intelligent Fluidics.
