The UK College of Optometrists welcomed Professor Irene Ctori FCOptom as the College's new President at its AGM, held at the recent Optometry Tomorrow conference (Harrogate, June 14-15).
Professor Irene Ctori previously served as Vice-President of the College and brings extensive experience in both clinical practice and optometry education. She is currently Dean of the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire and has held several senior leadership roles, contributing to the advancement of optometry education and professional standards in the UK and internationally.
Immediate Past-President Dr Gillian Rudduck MCOptom will continue in her role as a Trustee, and Council member for the North West of England.
Three other appointments were also announced at the AGM. Hassnain Safdar MCOptom was elected as Vice President of the College and Irfan Razvi MCOptom and Professor Kathryn Saunders FCOptom were elected as Trustees.
Professor Ctori said, “I look forward to building on the important work already underway to ensure optometrists remain at the heart of eyecare delivery, with their full range of skills, knowledge and competencies recognised, valued and utilized for the benefit of patients."
