Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, has been ranked as the highest-performing acute and specialist trust in England under the new National Health Service (NHS) Oversight framework league tables, published for the first time by NHS England.
The framework has been designed to evaluate trusts – legally independent organizations within the NHS that are responsible for managing and providing healthcare services – across a broad set of criteria, including patient access, cancer care timeliness, accident and emergency (A&E) performance, financial management, and safety and engagement metrics from the NHS staff survey.
Moorfields’ top ranking reflects its existing reputation and its strong performance across this spectrum, underlining both operational resilience and staff engagement. Interim chief executive Peter Ridley welcomed the result: “We are delighted to be recognized in this first table. Many of these are areas we have focussed on, and will continue to do so. Many thanks to all our staff at Moorfields; this performance reflects their dedication and commitment.”
Moorfields Eye Hospital is the UK’s leading provider of ophthalmic services and a global center for eye research and education. Partnered with the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, it operates across more than 20 locations in London and the South East, while also supporting private and international services.
This recognition further consolidates Moorfields’ reputation for excellence in both patient care and innovation at a time when the NHS is seeking to drive improvements in performance and safety nationwide.
