In Conversation With… Jim Mazzo

Whilst in Barcelona for the XXXIII Congress of the ESCRS 2015, Mark Hillen, editor of The Ophthalmologist, invited key participants of the conference to take part in an exciting new video project: “In Conversation With...”, an ongoing series of informal interviews with some of the biggest personalities in ophthalmology in glorious settings around the globe.

Next we speak with Jim Mazzo, Executive Chair and CEO of Acufocus and Executive Chair of Neurotech. When we met with him in the Presidential Suite of the Hesperia Tower Hotel in Barcelona, Spain, Jim discussed what it was like to step up to CEO position of international corporation AMO, how he attributes his successes to having a great team and to living overseas, which allowed him to truly understand cultural differences. He talks of why he believes the FDA is operating at its peak; it’s “open door policy” allowing good products to enter the market more efficiently. And he explains why he thinks the fields of retina disease, glaucoma, presbyopia and dry eye will see huge technology and therapeutic transformations over the next decade.
