What is an interesting or little-known fact about you?

From social media, many know that I love good food, traveling, and outdoor sports. However, few know that I spent several years on stage – acting, producing, and directing short plays throughout my student and university life. I even considered taking time off medical school to pursue this formally!

Why did you decide to pursue ophthalmology/your subspecialty?

Ophthalmology allows me to pursue my love for microsurgery and the practice of clinical medicine – while restoring vision, which is an important function.

Who has been particularly influential over the past 10 years?

Chelvin Sng! She has influenced my career and development in so many ways, but, more importantly, she has been a supportive spouse to allow me to pursue my own career goals and pursuits in ophthalmology.

What’s been the biggest breakthrough in ophthalmology/your specific field over the last 10 years?

Artificial intelligence.
