A little-known or interesting thing about you...

I have a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.

An instrument you would not have been able to live without over the past 10 years…

My piano.

One practical tip for a fellow expert...

There’s more to life (and glaucoma) than MIGS.

If you weren’t an ophthalmologist…

I’m not sure, but it probably wouldn’t be another job in clinical medicine. I have always loved technology, and I am increasingly interested in finding ways to support innovation in vision and eye health that has real world impact – one of the key things we are trying to do at the Centre for Eye Research Australia and the University of Melbourne. I have really enjoyed my own journey with several start-up companies, particularly the opportunity to interact with lots of smart people with bright ideas in thriving biotech ecosystems in Cambridge and Melbourne – but thankfully I have been able to do this without giving up ophthalmology!
