“Helen has managed to ‘break the glass ceiling’ for women in surgery. She has achieved numerous ‘firsts’ for New Zealand ophthalmologists: first New Zealand member of the Glaucoma Research Society, first Australian/New Zealander to be appointed to the AAO Basic Clinical Science Course, first female Chair of the RANZCO Scientific Programme Committee, and first ophthalmologist from New Zealand to serve on the Editorial Board of AJO and previously, Ophthalmology.”
