A little-known or interesting thing about you...
Few people know that I used to be an avid Chinese Chess player, and I represented my school in the Singaporean National Chinese Chess competitions when I was in school. I was never crowned the champion, but I did come close and was ranked 2nd and 3rd in some competitions! Sadly, I hardly play Chinese Chess these days, and I hope to get back into the game when I have more time one day.
If you weren’t an ophthalmologist…
I come from a family of doctors: my parents are gynaecologists, my brother is a general surgeon, and I am married to a cornea surgeon, Marcus Ang. I have medicine in my blood, hence if I weren’t an ophthalmologist, I would have still ended up in a medical profession. Perhaps if I were feeling adventurous, I would venture beyond the homo sapiens species and be a veterinarian, since I love animals.
A person in your field you look up to…
My previous mentor at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Keith Barton, is someone that I look up to. He has such a wealth of clinical experience and always provides insightful advice regarding challenging glaucoma cases. He also has boundless energy and enthusiasm that is not limited to ophthalmology – he can out-cycle, out-run and out-travel a person half his age!
