About Ranya Habash

Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Medical Director of Technology Innovation at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute; FDA Digital Health Network of Experts and Chief Medical Officer, Everbridge, Microsoft AI for Health, Miami, Florida, USA

What is your proudest professional achievement?

Creating my telemedicine company, which sparked my work in digital health technology and gave me the skills to lead our colleagues and other institutions when the pandemic hit. My experience navigated the implementation of digital health initiatives into real-world clinical use on an international scale. This will forever improve healthcare for our patients, our colleagues, and the health system as a whole.

Outside of ophthalmology, what makes you happy?

Solving problems within the health system genuinely makes me happy. On a more grounded note, playing tennis on a hot, sunny day and chasing squirrels in the park with my dog.

Why is it important to celebrate women in the field this way?

I think it’s important that we celebrate excellence in the field, regardless of gender, race, or age. This raises the bar for all of us. Female mentorship, however, lends an important perspective.
