What is your proudest professional achievement?

Receiving the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the American Glaucoma Society; an honor given to one person each year in the field of glaucoma.

Why is it important to celebrate women in the field this way?

Women are such an important part of the fabric of life, be it medicine or anything else. Our contributions to improve society as a whole should be celebrated and never ignored.

What can be done to make the field more diverse? 

Allowing all people, regardless of race, color or religion, the chance to shine in their fields should be top priority. The ability to share different cultural ideas just makes us all stronger in every aspect.

Outside of ophthalmology, what makes you happy?

I love to bake! I bring a fresh loaf to the operating room each time I go. I enjoy making people smile and say “yum!”
