About Julia A. Haller

Ophthalmologist-in-Chief and William Tasman, MD Endowed Chair, at Wills Eye Hospital, USA; and Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

What is your proudest professional achievement?

Leading Wills Eye Hospital and working alongside my incredible colleagues – faculty, staff, Board, and inspiring patients.

Outside of ophthalmology, what makes you happy?

Spending time – even virtually – with my family and friends.

Why is it important to celebrate women in the field this way?

Our field of ophthalmology, and the patients we serve, deserve the very best leadership we can find. Opening doors to the full range of global human talent is a crucial first step in identifying, nurturing, mentoring, and promoting those who can best shape a future of innovation and achievement. Brava to The Ophthalmologist for celebrating women in our field, thereby encouraging all those of diverse and non-traditional backgrounds to embark on and excel in the path these pioneers have blazed.
