What is your proudest professional achievement?

Being awarded the International Prevention of Blindness Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2011, which came as a complete surprise.

Outside of work, what makes you happy?

Walking holidays, wildlife, great theatre, and spending time with good friends and family – but not necessarily in that order!

Why is it important that we celebrate women in the field this way?

Men are the bricks, women are the mortar: it needs both to make a strong, resilient building.

What can be done to make the field more diverse? 

Anonymous shortlisting so the focus is on competencies and experience; enabling and supporting women in leadership development; better mentoring and creating more job-sharing positions.
