About Philip Rosenfeld
Piece of advice for your younger self?
Trust your ideas, trust your judgement, and seek out people who know what you don’t know.
The most serendipitous moment of your career?
In 1989, I serendipitously met Emmet Cunningham late one night at the Johns Hopkins Hospital cafeteria while on call as a resident. I told him I was switching from OB/GYN to Ophthalmology and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary would be my dream residency. He then tells me he happens to have an extra application for a job there, with the deadline being days away!
The most unexpected turn your career took?
Deciding to stay at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute after my fellowship, rather than return to my hometown of Philadelphia and join the faculty at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania as planned.
