Piece of advice for your younger self?

Don't worry about the destination. Follow the paths that interest you and the journey will always have been worth the cost of the ticket.

The most serendipitous moment of your career?

There have been too many such moments to list them here and I feel very lucky! They include meeting my future wife at Moorfields, as she is also a retina specialist; taking a research fellowship at UCLA in the late 1990s, studying HIV/CMV, the virus plagues of the time. 

The most unexpected turn of your career?

Putting my love of maths and problem solving to work with friends from across the UK and beyond, to create some of the first big data projects in ophthalmology, and seeing eye disease at the leading edge of reaping the benefits of data-driven healthcare.
