Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist, Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK

NIHR Researcher of the Year in 2017, Moorfields’ Innovator of the Year in 2016 and the recipient of the Macula Society’s 2017, Sobha’s 2018 Lancet paper was shortlisted as one of the finalists for the BMJ awards. She is the first Ophthalmologist to receive a Research Council UK funding of £6.3 million for a project that aims to increase research capability and capacity in India and the UK. She has active clinical and laboratory research interests in AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular disorders, and also runs several clinical trials in these areas and has over 200 peer-reviewed publications to her credit. Her research mainly focuses on biomarkers and modeling of retinal morphology in retinal diseases, and new therapies for age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and venous occlusive disease. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of Eye.
