Irini’s expertise is in medical retina, and she was previously a Medical Retina Fellow at King’s College Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK. She has published more than 125 publications in peer-review journals and participated in many clinical trials, as well as scientific congresses.
What motivates you?
“My love for ophthalmology and for patients. I am trying to help people by any means, either clinically/surgically or through research projects aiming at the early detection of retinal diseases and their treatment.”
What are your goals for the future?
“To develop a proper research unit for retinal diseases at University of Athens. This would give medical students, residents and other scientists the opportunity to conduct original basic or clinical research and understand the pathophysiology of retinal diseases, leading to effective management.”
