Fleckentein’s clinical and research focus is on AMD, with an emphasis on the natural history and pathogenesis of geographic atrophy (GA). Her aim is to identify the exact pathogenic pathway of the ‘trickling’ GA-subtype and to develop treatment strategies. She is also a co-founder of YouRetina, an initiative to support young retinal specialists within EURETINA.
