Potential new therapy for Alzheimer’s Disease. A new Disease Models & Mechanisms study has investigated how glucose metabolism in glial cells influences neurodegeneration in a Drosophila (fruit fly) model of Alzheimer’s disease. Enhancing glucose uptake specifically in pigment glial cells significantly reduced inflammation, inclusion formation, and photoreceptor degeneration. Link

Genetic analysis confirmed a likely causal relationship, highlighting the importance of early screening and intensive management for individuals diagnosed with diabetes at a younger age. Link
