Schwind additions. Ophthalmic laser technology company SCHWIND has introduced CenTrax, designed for use with the SCHWIND ATOS femtosecond laser, and SCHWIND Foresight, which can be integrated with the SCHWIND AMARIS excimer laser. Link

STOC-T benefits. A recent study has analyzed retinal vascular hemodynamics in mice using a novel spatio-temporal optical coherence tomography (STOC-T) system. The researchers achieved high-resolution imaging of the mouse retina and choroid, uncovering detailed blood flow patterns, pulse wave velocities, and tissue displacement dynamics, which revealed distinct arterial and venous pulsation characteristics. The authors, working out of the International Center for Translational Eye Research (ICTER), Warszawa, Poland, say the findings offer valuable insights into neurovascular coupling and vascular anomalies. Paranoid vision. A Communications Psychology study has explored how paranoid and teleological thinking can influence visual perception, leading to distinct "social hallucinations." Using motion-based visual displays, the Yale University researchers found that individuals with paranoia were more likely to perceive non-existent chasing behavior as threats, while those with excessive teleological thinking ascribed purpose to random movements. Both tendencies were linked to confident perceptual errors, suggesting a connection between higher-level cognitive biases and low-level visual processing. Link

Retinoblastoma Simulation. Researchers from the Hospital de Pediatría JP Garrahan in Buenos Aires have developed preclinical models of retinoblastoma resistant to topotecan and melphalan. These chemoresistant cells showed cross-resistance to other commonly used agents like carboplatin, highlighting challenges in treating recurrent or refractory cases. While the results warrant further investigation to support clinical translation, the authors report that the creation of these chemoresistant retinoblastomas proved useful in identifying potential strategies that could be used to overcome resistance to topotecan or melphalan through drug repurposing.
