Recognizing and rewarding projects closing the gap between optometry and ophthalmology

What?
The Collaborative Eye Care Award – brought to you by The Ophthalmologist and The New Optometrist – recognizes and rewards projects that are closing the gap between optometry and ophthalmology to drive real change in the eye care space.

The winning team – selected by an international panel of eye care professionals – will also be profiled in a feature article published in both The New Optometrist and The Ophthalmologist. All shortlisted entries will be featured in The Ophthalmologist and The New Optometrist.

Why?
With long waiting lists for patients needing treatment continuing to grow, the pressure on eye care provision in the UK is more intense than ever. The advancement of a joined-up service that sees optometrists/dispensing opticians and ophthalmologists collaborating more closely would go a long way to easing the NHS burden and tackling this encroaching health crisis.

Who?
UK-based teams that have completed or are working on projects that boost eye care through collaboration are welcome. Suitable projects include those that improve patient outcomes in primary care, establish a new reimbursement model, find new ways of sharing data and information, advance specialist knowledge, or change the cultural mindset to bring optometrists/dispensing opticians and ophthalmologists closer together.

Projects must be ongoing or must have been completed in the last three years. Teams with both optometrist/dispensing optician and ophthalmologist representatives will be prioritized.

Our inaugural winner created PocketEye with the goal of empowering their colleagues to deliver the best possible care through a collaborative and communicative approach.

‘This is the peak of our year! We are really honoured and privileged to win this award, It means a lot to us.’

Dr Meera Radia Co-Founder & CEO, PocketEye

How?
You can nominate the work of your team by sending a short (100–200 word) overview of your project, outlining how it has boosted or aims to improve the provision of eye care in your community. Include your name, contact details, and details of the other project participants.

When?
The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2024.
The winner will be announced in early 2025!
Good luck!
