Credit: ”Eye Screening at Jukwa, Ghana,” by Kwame Yeboah, got this year’s professional Photo of the Year award at the World Sight Day 2022 Photo Competition organized by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).
The World Sight Day Photo Competition, the largest and most prestigious eye health photo contest, has been organized by the IAPB since 2015. In 2022, professional and amateur photographers from 60 countries submitted 960 photos. While Kwame Yeboah was awarded the first prize in the professional category for the image featured here, Laite Tuiloma won the amateur Photo of the Year with “Refraction.”
As IAPB President and one the judges, Caroline Casey, put it, the images make “visible the issue that is a global blind spot.”
