Welcome to first issue of The Ophthalmologist in 2022! Our Upfront section features the latest industry and research, from the discovery of a new class of retinal cell, right to the chronicles of ophthalmology from our consultant historian ophthalmologist, Andrzej Grzybowski. In our opinion column, Graham Barrett explores modest monovision as a strategy for balancing near and far vision. The cover feature opens a new series we are working on with ARVO and features the association’s leadership team, who discuss how ARVO has developed and overcome challenges over recent years, and the role it has played in their careers. In Cornea and OSD, Che J. Connon outlines his plans to grow cornea to meet the impending need for corneal transplant tissue, and in Cataract and Refractive section, nine renowned surgeons share their perspectives on the recently approved drops for presbyopia. In Glaucoma, we ask three specialists to offer their outlooks on how COVID-19 affected glaucoma management in different parts of the world, and in Retina, Jongmin Kim and Dong-Woo Cho explore how retinal tissue goes from bench to bedside using 3D printing and decellularized ECM. Finally, we sit down with Gladys Atto, ophthalmologist at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, Moroto, Uganda.
