Welcome to the March issue of The Ophthalmologist! Our Upfront section features the latest industry and research, from the effect of fine particulate matter on AMD to Zika’s impact on retinal development in utero. In the opinion column, In My View, Sandra Yeh argues that the AAO should serve the whole ophthalmic community, and David Huang comments on his recent win – the Greenberg Prize to End Blindness. In our cover feature, “A Way Out of the Dark,” Rupert Bourne and colleagues from the Vision Loss Expert Group present the global status of vision loss and outline future expectations. The issue’s In Practice articles take on refractive options for professional athletes, materials and processes used to create IOLs, uveitis clinical pearls, and preoperative cataract evaluation protocols. In NextGen, Bala Ambati discusses a novel approach to treating keratoconus, while Profession covers medical student burnout. Further, Nikki Hafezi continues the story of successfully commercializing an ophthalmic product. Finally, we sit down with Sathish Srinivasan, Consultant Ophthalmologist at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse, Ayrshire and Arran NHS in Scotland. I hope you enjoy reading this issue!
