The author of the 1976 painting is Terry Tarrant, one of the best-known ophthalmic medical illustrators, who spent many years working at the Institute of Ophthalmology and then Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. A recent interview with Tarrant can be found on the Royal College of Ophthalmologists website.
