Although the femtosecond laser is a relatively new tool in ophthalmology, its versatility and precision have seen it used for a range of applications in anterior segment surgery, such as laser capsulotomy, the creation of corneal flaps for LASIK, corneal incisions for keratoplasy and lens fragmentation. Although the price tag means it isn’t accessible to everyone, the costs of femtosecond lasers have been falling, and its number of applications keep expanding.
To provide insight into the past and predictions for the future of the field, a series of metrics were applied to the last five years of published literature. We asked:

- Which publications have the greatest impact?

- Who are the most prolific authors?
