Eberhart Zrenner
A graduate in electronic engineering as well as in medicine, Eberhart Zrenner’s career has merged his clinical and research interests. He founded the Institute for Ophthalmic Research at the University of Tübingen Center for Ophthalmology, where he runs a special clinic for patients with hereditary retinal degenerations. His research pursuits include retinal physiology and pathophysiology, ophthalmogenetics and retinal implants. In this issue, he writes about the development of a subretinal active microphotodiode array (MPDAs) to replace degenerated photoreceptors in blind people.
