David Mackey

David Mackey is an ophthalmologist who has worked on glaucoma genetics for thirty years since he started the Glaucoma Inheritance Study in Tasmania (GIST) in 1994. He has been involved in most of the major glaucoma genetics discoveries in this time, with over 150 publications on glaucoma genetics from over 500 papers, and he has an H index of 97 on Google Scholar. He is the chair of the monthly International Glaucoma Genetics Consortium teleconferences.

He is Vice President of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, Councillor for the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, Councillor of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology and in 2019 was awarded an Officer in the Order of Australia.
