David Keegan
A medical retinal specialist surgeon at Mater Private and Mater Misericordiae Hospitals, both in Dublin, Ireland, David Keegan was one of the first surgeons to implant a miniature telescope in a non-US patient outside of a clinical trial. His research interests are age-related macular degeneration and inherited retinal disease, and he runs a retinal transplant programme. Keegan sits on the boards of both the National Council for The Blind of Ireland and Fighting Blindness (Ireland), but states that his main interests outside of ophthalmology are playing golf badly and maintaining a lifetime achievement of refusing to learn how to swim.
