This time last year, we worked with four AI gurus to prepare a large feature on applying AI and deep learning to eye care. We followed it up with interviews focusing on ethical implications of using artificial intelligence, exploring both its advantages and potential problems. Now, I invite you to read about a practical large-scale application of AI to screen for diabetic retinopathy in a region of Poland. The project involves screening over 40,000 diabetics in 30 local clinics, and – if successful – could be rolled out across the country and replicated elsewhere in the world. Until next time, Aleksandra Jones, Editor.
